Scrappy Half Square Triangle Tutorial
Are you looking for ways to use up your scraps?
Currently, I'm working on a quilt that needs
lots and lots
of 3 1/2- inch Scrappy Half Square Triangles
I'm happy because I've gone through my stash
and thinned it out a bit
by cutting a good variety of 9-inch squares.
Then I pulled out my
3 1/2-inch (Finished)
Triangles On A Roll paper.
These rolls are 50 feet long.
The 3 1/2" roll alone
will make 540 HST's!
I won't need nearly that many for this project,
so I will have plenty left over for a future project.
I want to make 8 HST's out of each 2 color combination.
Each little HST section on the paper = one HST
so I counted out 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
and then cut my paper
One of the best features about
Triangles On A Roll papers
is that each one tells you how wide to cut your fabric squares.
For the 3 1/2" I needed to cut 9" wide.
For this project, my paper squares in length were also
about 9 inches
so I cut my fabric out
9" X 9"
**Because these were scraps, I didn't worry about waste
and wanted my cutting to go faster
so many of my fabric scraps were slightly bigger.
I then cut out stacks of papers to match my stacks
of Scrappy squares of fabrics :)
Next, match up two fabrics,
right sides together.
Pin a paper on top
Lower your stitch length to 1.5 on your machine.
Stitch on the dotted lines.
This is so easy!
Even beginning sewers can do this.
Then cut on the solid line,
all the way around, even on the solid lines around the
outside of the block.
Pull off your paper,
cut off the little bunny ears
and press your HST open.
As you can see, it's a
PERFECT 3 1/3-inch Half Square Triangle!
No trimming up!
They are ready to be used right away!
These work up so quickly.
I now have a nice variety of HST's
all ready to be sewn together into blocks.
You can order
Triangles On A Roll HST's
in 11 different sizes
starting from 1-inch
going all the way up to 6-inches
